Since 1998 we have been helping women, children, their families and individuals to strive for a brighter future. Our range of projects are created with a vision to bridge the gap between cultures and engage those harder to reach members of the community.

Projects that shaped Shantona's story
Over more than 25 years, Shantona has delivered a wide range of projects - from local community health initiatives to transnational European programmes. While these projects are now complete, they represent the breadth of our work and the foundations on which our current services are built.

Prevent
Educating parents and building community resilience against extremism, far right activism, online grooming and radicalisation - to safeguard future generations.
Niche Tobacco Project
Supporting women and young people to reduce the risk of harm by raising awareness about the dangers of niche tobacco chewing and the increasing use of Shisha - through outreach support.
Parenting Apart Together
Supporting separating and separated parents in Gipton and Harehills, Leeds - including those at the verge of family breakdown or going through divorce. Support included counselling, advice and mediation.
Gender Wise
A transnational European project in which Shantona worked with 8 countries to examine men as change agents - looking at socialisation and education, gender in the workplace, and domestic responsibilities.
Strong Mother, Stronger Daughters
Delivering activities that empower women and girls to take a leadership approach -improving community cohesion, integration, and challenging harmful cultural practices.
Community Messenger - Mental Health
A structured training programme for women with lived mental health experience - equipping them to lead, share and transform how the community talks about mental health from a cultural and religious perspective.
Employment Support - Shoman Adhikhar
Customised training and employment support for vulnerable and isolated BAME women in East Leeds - helping them into employment and training pathways.

Employment Support - Shoman Adhikhar
The most detailed of our past projects, Shoman Adhikhar delivered lasting employment outcomes for vulnerable women in East Leeds.
Customised employment support for BAME women in East Leeds
Shoman Adhikhar delivered customised training and employment support to vulnerable and isolated BAME women in East Leeds. This valuable section of the community often faces barriers to engaging in economic activities. The project supported local women to realize and value their potential – and progress into training and employment pathways.

Employment Drop-Ins
Matching skills and experience to job descriptions or self-employment options
One-to-one support and access to a computer and wifi
Help to improve confidence in speaking, reading and writing English
Practical help with CV writing, job application forms and mock interviews
Workshops on self-employment requirements
(Health & Safety, Bookkeeping, Finance, registering a business)
Build on existing skills, build resilience and confidence, and boost independence

Initial registration was available by telephone or referral. One-to-one support was arranged to suit individual requirements.
