Chief Executive Officer

Nahid Rasool

nahid@shantona.co.uk

Nahid Rasool is the Chief Executive of Shantona Women’s & Family Services, with over 36 years’ experience in the voluntary and community sector. A British Bangladeshi woman working in the third sector, she has dedicated her career to strengthening communities, advancing equity, and supporting minority-led grassroots organisations.

Nahid began at Shantona as a Coordinator when the organisation had just two part-time staff. Over two decades as CEO, she has grown Shantona into a nationally and internationally recognised organisation of 30 staff — securing around £12 million in funding and increasing annual income from £30,000 to £700,000.

Her leadership reaches well beyond Shantona. She served as UK Coordinator for the Genderwise European Project, founded the Women and Girls Alliance Leeds (now a network of 13 women’s organisations), and represents small and minority-led charities on the Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) Board.

Nahid’s work has been widely recognised. She holds an Honorary Doctorate from Leeds Beckett University (2017), has been named one of the Most Influential South Asian Women in Leeds for four consecutive years, and is one of 383 women celebrated in the landmark ‘Ribbons’ sculpture honouring women who have shaped the city of Leeds
