The Youth Work Service
The youth service at Shantona aims to encourage young people aged between 13-19 years old to participate in social and recreational activities as well as providing young people with information, guidance and support.The youth worker’s role is to work with young people to facilitate their personal, social and educational development and to support young people during their period of transition from dependence to independence. At Shantona we like to have fun! Our activities include: beauty courses, henna painting, t-shirt design, jewellery making, first aid, accredited computer course, residential, photography, art and crafts, dancercise, Graffiti workshop, dJ session, Henna art, Healthy eating/baking session, summer play scheme, trip to Flamingo land, talent show, gardening, mosaic, photography and much more! In addition we run weekly CV workshops, careers, educational and personal advice, appointment based one-to-ones session with the Youth worker or Connexions personal adviser.We have the regular girls group (Every Wednesday, unless stated otherwise) where we run creative and fun activities for young people to gain new skills as well as having a place to chill out and socialise. We also run our regularly drop-in surgery so young people can come along by themselves or with friends for confidential one-to-one advice or information on any issues that are concerning them and one-of activities such as trips out, career’s talks, poetry reading etc. We work closely with the youth service, local schools and external agencies to provide a service that is of a high standard and relevant for the children and young people in this area.Shantona provides a welcoming and safe place for young people to come along and participate in activities, workshops and courses that are specifically created for the young people.
