History and Background

Shantona Women's Centre was established in January 1998 and was launched in September 1998 to build the confidence and independence of the Bangladeshi women, young people and children living in Harehills and Chapeltown.

Since than Shantona has not looked back; acting as an advocate, became the voice of Bangladeshi Women, young people and children, representing them in strategic level, where their views have never reached.

One of Shantona's vital roles is to support vulnerable women and children to re-establish themselves in the community. It is often forgotten that before we build their confidence, independence and skills, we need to strengthen and secure their family lives.

Shantona has been able to build confidence, develop skills, provide opportunities, increase awareness and most importantly improved the quality of life of some women through providing various educational, recreational, social activities and health initiatives and continuously trying for that.
